DUST
This record is the sound of something coming to an end.
It all began there, at that precise point where solidity starts to give way.
Even where everything seems still, something moves, shifts, transforms.
I searched for sounds, fractures, echoes; not so much to shape something that perhaps escapes language, but to convey a sensation:
the collapse of beauty, the transformation of matter, the sense of having been here, of a presence that leaves traces but not certainties.
This is not a balanced work, it's music that disintegrates, that yields, that lets go.
Among the many journeys I’ve undertaken and the places I’ve explored, where primordial forces shape the earth and horizons seem endless, I’ve felt every certainty and sense of security dissolve. In their place, a profound awareness of our fragility and the ephemeral nature of our existence has taken hold.
In the presence of such majestic landscapes, where nature reigns with its raw power and overwhelming grandeur, we are reduced to mere particles, dust, destined to fade into the boundless expanse, leaving behind only echoes of our existence.
The words Ephemeral and Dust conveys the idea of something fleeting and temporary, resonating with the sensation of gradual dissolution.
The sounds I chose are meant to represent the shattering of anything, delicate or not, akin to a stone or the fragile wings of an insect.
The stones themselves hold a profound fascination for me. It is their material that captivates me, and they are the central element of this album. Their apparent solidity, their roughness, even their beauty, the colors and shapes they assume. But like everything else, even stones, whether small or large boulders, are destined to break, to disintegrate until they vanish into nothingness. Not only us, seemingly more fragile creatures, but even the most imposing stones, whether common or precious, share the same fate. Everything is ephemeral, seemingly temporary. We may even hasten our own demise through our foolishness, but destiny remains unchanged. Everything crumbles, only to rise again and recreate itself into something new.
The impression of transience, of lives that burn and consume themselves, was my reality during the long time I played this album, and that's what emerged.
I wanted then to create a powerful contrast, almost a dialogue between two opposites.
On one side, towards the end of the album, there’s a track that conveys the fragility of human existence, a sung piece, almost like a mantra; it evokes the sense of transience, of having to leave, to let go of everything, leaving things unresolved. There’s rarely a true ending; more often, there’s a sudden cut, with no time for goodbyes. This track was born from a special collaboration with a dear friend, who fully understood the essence of the album and this piece in particular. A shared passion for music brought us together across time and distance.
On the other hand, at the very end of the album, there is a track made of noise; dissonant and inhospitable; I wanted it to express the brutal force of nature, its looming presence, and its perpetual existence.
I wanted this contrast to highlight our fragility in the face of the vastness of nature, nature’s ability to make us feel small and vulnerable. This piece represents the power and inevitability of nature, its ability to transform and destroy at any moment.
I sought to conceive a powerful image: a storm of stones raging forcefully. I wanted an imposing depiction of destruction.
Our world, who we are, I wanted it to emerge as an intertwining of poetry and harsh reality. It is in this dualism that our essence lies. This contrast between the beauty, the poetry of humanity, and destruction, between fragility and power, is what I wanted to capture with these two tracks.
